A handle that feels strong on an empty pail may behave differently after the package is filled, stored, lifted repeatedly, and transported through changing temperatures. The same is true of stacking. A rigid-looking empty bucket can deform under a sustained pallet load, especially when the lid, base, wall, fill temperature, and product weight are not evaluated as one system.

Shape and lid geometry influence how vertical load is transferred. A pallet test should reproduce the intended arrangement rather than use an arbitrary stack.
Short demonstrations do not represent days or weeks in a warehouse. Define the load duration and inspect for body buckling, lid dish, base distortion, loss of closure engagement, leaning, and difficulty separating units. If filled pails are stacked directly, confirm whether the base locates securely on the lid below.
The correct duration and safety factor depend on the supply chain. Buyers should agree on a documented method with the supplier or testing provider rather than copying a generic number from another package.
Stacking is only one part of distribution. Pallets experience handling impacts, vibration, uneven support, braking, turns, and changes in temperature. Use a risk-based program that may include filled-package drops, vibration or route simulation, compression, and post-test leak or closure checks. Test methods should reflect the package, product, transport mode, and market requirements.

Buyers also overlook the effect of lid choice, decoration, and pallet pattern. Finally, terms such as “heavy duty,” “leakproof,” and “export quality” are not acceptance criteria. Replace them with observable requirements and agreed tests.
