PPWR compliance begins before the purchase order.
For buyers sourcing PP or HDPE packaging, a structured RFQ process can prevent documentation gaps later.
Use the following checklist.
Identify whether the packaging is:
PP
HDPE
LDPE
PET
multilayer or mixed material.
Do not rely only on the commercial product name.
Is the packaging intended for:
food;
chemicals;
cosmetics;
agricultural products;
household products?
Food-contact applications may trigger additional documentation requirements.
Verify:
sample name;
model;
capacity;
material;
manufacturer/applicant.
The closer the report matches the purchased packaging, the stronger the evidence.
For applicable packaging, ask about:
Heavy Metals
and, where relevant:
PFAS / Total Fluorine.
Do not treat PPWR evidence as a replacement for:
EU 10/2011
or other applicable food-contact documentation.
REACH and PPWR overlap in the broader chemical-compliance discussion, but they are separate regulatory frameworks.
Ask whether SVHC screening is available for the relevant product family.
Identify whether the evidence belongs to:
the manufacturer;
a group company;
an upstream material or component supplier.
This is especially important for lids, liners, cartons and shipping materials.
Ask whether there have been changes in:
resin;
additive;
colour masterbatch;
supplier;
structure;
manufacturing process
since testing.
PPWR requires formal conformity processes and technical documentation for applicable packaging.
A logo on a product page is not the same as regulatory evidence.
If a packaging design will remain in use for several years, evaluate future:
recyclability;
recycled content;
material simplification
during development—not after launch.
For selected product families, documentation may include:
FSSC / ISO manufacturing-system certification
EU Food Contact reports
REACH SVHC reports
PPWR testing for selected PP and HDPE packaging
supplier supporting evidence
Document availability depends on the specific product and project.
